The ‘Sport of Kings’ is back at the Bush Lot United Turf Club, West Coast Berbice, today where another grand contest will start from 13:00 hours featuring eight races and prize monies totaling over $2M.
Among the top horses already registered for today’s event are Sir Balagie, Zelona, Top of the Line, Work Force, Prospectors’ Pride, Royal Time, Royal Salute, Flying Object, Windy War, Felicia, Sure Time, Spring Time, She is Royal, New Moon, O So Sharp, School Boy, Mc Gyver, Mr. Briggs, Sonia Door, Little Tip Top, Pleasant Surprise, and Black Tricks.
Other making up the top-class field are Natural Black, Kevin, Natural Mystic, Texas Ranger, Reverse, Busy Time, Mischief, Shivone, Black Water, Valentino , Black Gold and Billy the Kid.
However, according to pundits in horse racing circles Kevin is now the horse to watch, especially after dethroning some likely winners in its first race two Sundays ago.
The horse is entered to run in the feature G and Lower race, which carries a winning purse of $250,000 and trophy for the 1400m event.
The two-year-old Guyana-bred maiden race is the co-feature and the winner will cart off $150,000 in the 1200m event. The H class winning purse is set at $120,000 and trophy while the I and lower, J and lower and K classes have winning prizes of $100,000, $80,000 and $30,000 respectively.
Also, there is a 1000m sprint race for maiden horses and the winning purse is $100,000, along with a trophy. There are also two group races, one and two for non-winners, set at $60,000 and $50,000 respectively.
Meanwhile, some of major sponsors on board are Banks DIH Limited, Guyana Telephone & Telegraph (GT&T), the Sheriff Racing Stables and Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
According to a release the organisers are expressing thanks to Rommel Jagroop, Mohammed “Nankoo” Sheriff, Buddy Shivraj, Senior Counsel Marcel Crawford, who is the legal advisor, for their inputs in planning and organizing today’s event.
The release noted also that apart from having some of the country’s top horses on show, spectators will also appreciate the recent renovation and covering of the main stand and the resurfacing of the track, which was graded and leveled.
In addition, new washroom facilities have been constructed and running water installed.
