A 24-year-old woman is now in critical condition after she was struck off her bicycle by a pickup last evening on the East Bank highway.
Agricola resident June Sobers was in an unconscious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). She was stuck down by a motor vehicle bearing licence plate GNN 6680.
Her husband told this newspaper that the accident occurred opposite the service station in Eccles. According to him, his wife had just dropped his dinner to him at his workplace and was returning home when tragedy struck. Based on the reports of eyewitnesses, he said, the view of the driver of the pickup may have been obscured by two minibuses.
The man insisted though that the driver of the pickup had to be speeding given the extent of damage done to the bicycle.
He said when he arrived at the scene his wife’s bicycle was seriously damaged.
When he arrived at the GPH, his wife had slipped into unconscious. Her body was also badly bruised, he related to this newspaper.
