A Critchlow Labour College student and an alleged accomplice who are accused of robbing another man at gunpoint of a quantity of gold valued in excess of $2 million were yesterday remanded to prison after they appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation against Akeem Adual and Troy Bernette is that on October 6 at Georgetown they wounded the virtual complainant (VC) Kevin Kaynes with intent to maim, disfigure, disable or cause him grievous bodily harm. It is further alleged that the duo on the same day being armed with a gun, robbed the VC of a quantity of gold valued at $2.5M.
The two accused who reside at D’Urban Street were not required to plead to the indictable charge when it was read to them.
No facts were presented on what had transpired on the day in question but the prosecution related to the court that the VC has been hospitalized as a result of the injuries he sustained in the incident.
Prosecutor Luckhai Jairam stated that the number two accused, Bernette, was on bail on a charge of a similar nature when he allegedly committed this offence. The prosecutor strongly urged that the duo be remanded to prison, citing the prevalence of the offence.
The magistrate ruled in favour of the prosecution and told the two accused that they were remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned until November 11.
