(BVI Platinum News) – Police are conducting investigations after the body of a male Guyanese native was discovered on Thursday morning, under a guinep tree on a vacant property alongside Fine Foods Supermarket on the eastern end of Tortola.
Relatives at the scene told BVI Platinum News that Rohan Nandram left home some time after 7 am for work at the Moorings, but they were later informed that he was found dead under the tree where he and other men from the community would gather.
Relatives said that Nandram celebrated his 40th birthday in August and had been living in the Virgin Islands for over five years after migrating from Berbice, Guyana.
His relatives said that he had a “drinking habit” and would usually “drink beers with the boys under the tree”.
While police were conducting investigations, one of Nandram’s friends, Paul Alexander showed up to meet him as usual under the tree.
“This is my good friend. Jah knows. I feel it for him,” Alexander said shortly after Police stopped him from getting close to the spot where the body was discovered.
He said that he usually met Nandram under the tree every morning and sometimes during the evenings. According to Alexander, in recent times he observed that Nandram’s hands would tremble and when he questioned it, Nandram told him he was sick.
Alexander said that he had encouraged Nandram to stop drinking, to no avail.
Relatives said that Nandram resided in East End at an apartment opposite Bobby’s Supermarket.
A post-mortem examination is expected to be carried out shortly to help determine the cause of death.
