(Reuters) The ICC Champions Trophy is likely to give way for a Test Championship. International Cricket Council ICC Executive Board meeting which began here Monday is likely to make that decision.
Currently ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in England in June 2013 but the possibility of converting it into a Test Championship is being discussed.
Haroon Lorgat, ICC Chief Executive, said: “Player and public interest in Test match cricket is at an all-time high and it would be fitting to stage a Test Championship play-off for top four teams.”
The Executive Board will also discuss domestic anti-corruption codes and the findings of the Independent Governance Review that was commissioned in June.
The scope of the review is such that huge changes in the administration are likely to emerge if implemented. This includes clarifying the role and structure of the ICC and its committees to ensure that strategic goals are met effectively and that decision-making is made in the best interests of the game.
This would also include consideration of independent committee members and directors.
It will also decide on the ICC President nomination and election process and the categories and criteria for membership. There will be many more changes to ensure that the ICC enjoys a reputation as a well governed and leading global sporting organization.
