GPL consumers in sections of the city, East Bank and East Coast were hit with an early morning power outage which lasted for about an hour.
While power has been restored to East Bank and East Coast communities, most of the city was still without power at midday today. Power was later restored in some parts.
Bharrat Dindial, GPL Chief Executive Officer (CE0) told Stabroek News that there was a fault at the Cheddi Jagan Dental School. He said that one of the circuits was damaged.
Dindial said that not all of Georgetown was affected by the fault.
When this newspaper visited the Cheddi Jagan Dental School, GPL employees were working to repair the fault.
According to one worker, the wiring outside the facility ‘burst’ but he did not say how.
He said that in order to effect the repairs, the power had been turned off.
In recent months GPL has had supply and transmission issues. Questions have been raised as to why after 19 years in governance the PPP/C has been unable to have these problems fully rectified.
