The Guyana Teachers’ Union/Ministry of Education National Schools’ Track and Field, Cycling and Swimming Championships have been set for November 14-18 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence. This information was obtained by Stabroek Sport yesterday following a meeting held by the championships’ committee and other stakeholders.
However, not much is known at this time regarding what transpired at the meeting but it was learnt through the president of the GTU Colin Bynoe that an official statement will be released shortly outlining plans for the event.
What is known is that the schools’ premier sporting event, which is now in its 51st year, will be launched shortly. Currently, athletes are competing in the Inter-Schools and Zones Competitions that will enable district heads to select their strongest teams possible.
District 10 (Upper Demerara/Linden) are the defending champions.
On the other hand, it is also not yet known whether the 50m swimming pool at Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara, will be used but Bynoe said that information will be known in the coming week.
