The PPP/C is still reviewing whether its presidential candidate Donald Ramotar will be participating in the upcoming presidential debate being organised by Merundoi Inc.
When contacted, campaign spokesperson Robert Persaud said that the matter is still being looked at by the party. He said that Ramotar has confirmed his participation in an upcoming event organized by the Faculty of Social Science at the University of Guyana, where all the presidential candidates will be interacting with students.
Last week Merundoi announced that it will be holding a 90-minute debate early next month at the Theatre Guild. So far, the presidential candidates from A Partnership for National Unity (APNU), the Alliance For Change (AFC) and the United Force (TUF) have confirmed their participation, Merundoi said.
Merundoi said it is collaborating in the venture with the Private Sector Commission, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Guyana Press Association, the Guyana Media Proprietors Association and the Council of Organizations for Persons with Disabilities.
Last month, the University of Guyana Workers Union (UGWU) said Ramotar had declined to participate in a presidential debate it was organizing involving the candidates of the three major political parties.
At that time the PPP/C had pointed to the engagement being organized by the Faculty of Social Sciences.
In August, Ramotar told a press conference that he had no problem with debating any of the other presidential candidates as long as it was politically good to do so. “I have no objections to debating any of them, anytime, anyplace, anywhere… as long as it is politically good to do so,” Ramotar had said.
