Former junior national basketball player Orin Rose put on a clinic to lead his team, Unknowns, undefeated through to the next round of the Mackeson Smooth Moves 3-on-3 basketball tournament at the Mackenzie Sports Club (MSC) Court last Wednesday evening.
Hurling six shots from beyond the arc, Rose helped the Unknowns to become the first team to score 21 points before the 15-minute game was up. Rose accounted for 12 of the 21 points scored by the Unknowns.
Jets was the second team to make it through to the next round in the Linden zone as Shane Webster’s dominance was evident in helping the Jets forward.
Webster, who represented Guyana at the Caribbean Basketball Championships in the Bahamas, seemed unstoppable. He was supported by the crafty point guard Kevin Joseph, power forward Lawrence De Coasta and Laurell Caleb.
Meanwhile at the Albouystown Court, Moses Pacesetters, Jefford Pacesetters and Chronic were the three teams to advance to the next phase of the competition.
Former national junior basketball player Elton Jefford along with Jermaine Hamilton and Derwin George of Jefford Pacesetters upstaged a strong Nets lineup with the likes of Pelum Doris, Triston Tulloch, Mortimer Williams and GDF captain Drumson McCully to make it to the next round.
Ryan Melville displayed why he is called ‘Show Time’ displaying a wide array of dribbling skills to the delight of the crowd in attendance as he helped Chronic through to the next round. His teammates Earl O’ Neil, Joel Loncke and Damien Europe also made some awe-inspiring plays to delight the crowd.
Moses Pacesetters, featuring Kurt Moses, Rayon Cummings, Junior Crawford and Travis Williams also looked like champions as they made it into the next round Bounty Colts ‘C’ who were crowd favourites failed to follow their fellow counterparts Bounty Colts ‘A’ as they were booted from the competition.
Meanwhile the tournament will continue tonight at the MSC Court with Group ‘C’ from Linden while Sunday will see the tournament moving to Bartica and Berbice.
