GECOM COMMENCES PRINTING OF THE OFFICIAL LIST OF ELECTORS
The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) has commenced the printing of the Official List of electors (OLE) for the 2011 General and Regional Elections.  The OLE is being printed on specially designed water-marked paper procured from CODE Inc. a reputable overseas supplier which deals in sensitive election materials.  The OLE will be used for the conduct of the upcoming Elections.

Electronic copies of the OLE were given by Chairman of the Guyana Elections

Commission, Dr. Steve Surujbally to Mr. Robert Corbin, Leader of the People’s

National Congress Reform (PNCR) and Mr. Donald Ramotar, General Secretary and

Presidential Candidate of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C).  Electronic copies of the document were likewise given to the other Parties which were represented in the recently dissolved Parliament.   Other Political Parties are being provided with copies of the certified OLE upon request.

List of Polling Stations being Finalized
The Logistics Division of the Secretariat of GECOM has proposed a list of 2075 Polling Stations to be established at 991 Polling Places in all of the 10 Electoral Districts across Guyana to facilitate voting on Election Day.  Copies of the proposed list have been given to the GECOM Commissioners for them to study and comment on.  Thereafter, the proposed list of Polling Stations will be discussed at Commission level with a view to bringing it to finality.

GECOM MEETS Representatives of the Fundamental Structure Group (FSG)
Dr. Surujbally, and Mr. Gocool Boodoo, Chief Election Officer, met on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, with Representatives of the Fundamental Structure Group (FSG).

The meeting was held at the GECOM Boardroom, 41, High and Cowan Streets, Kingston, Georgetown.

Mr. Anthony Snow, Leader and Presidential Candidate of the FSG, had written Dr. Surujbally a letter dated 30.09.2011 requesting the meeting to discuss a number of election related issues.  Mr. Snow was accompanied by Mr. David Kirton, and Mr. George Correia.    Among the more salient issues discussed was the requirements associated with preparation and submission of Lists of Candidates for contesting the 2011 General and Regional Elections.  In this regard, Dr. Surujbally assured the FSG’s Representatives of GECOM’s open door policy through which the FSG, like all of the other Political Parties, could seek advice/guidance concerning the requirements to be met for contesting the Elections.

Training of Polling Day Staff
GECOM continues to move ahead with its nationwide series of two-day Training

Sessions targeting personnel who will be employed to work throughout Guyana on Polling Day for the upcoming Elections.  The sixth leg in the series was conducted simultaneously on October 15 and 16, 2011 in Electoral Districts 8 and 9.

Additionally a second round of training of persons to be employed to work in

District 4 has commenced.  This second round, which was conducted simultaneously at 13 locations on the East Coast of Demerara on October 15 and 16, 2011 is intended to ensure that the full complement of the workforce required to work on Election Day will be appointed.  The second round of training will continue on October 22-23 in Georgetown and on the East Bank of Demerara.  This will mark the completion of training of persons to be appointed to work on Election Day.
