Guyanese doctor Linden Lord who was shot in Jamaica on Friday is in a stable condition and according to reports from the island he had been receiving threats.
Lord was shot in Mandeville and the Jamaica Gleaner yesterday said that it had been reported that Lord had received threats to his life.
He was pounced on by armed men who shot him in the head as he reached his house in Ingleside, Mandeville, just after 7 p.m. He was taken to the Mandeville Hospital then airlifted to Kingston. Subsequent checks revealed that Lord was conscious and in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, the Mandeville medical fraternity has expressed shock at the shooting of their colleague.
“We are bothered by (attacks) all around but when it gets so close it is disturbing,” said Dr Clifton Reid, general practitioner at the Hargreaves Memorial Hospital.
Lord works at the Mandeville Regional Hospital and has a private practice at Grove Court in Mandeville.
Meanwhile, speaking with Stabroek News last evening, the man’s sister stated that Lord is a man of God and members of various churches in and around Georgetown are praying for him as well as he is well-known in the Christian society.
She noted that the 45-year-old man’s mother and his brother left Guyana yesterday and have travelled to Jamaica to provide support.
Doctor Lord resides in Jamaica with his wife Carol Rollox-Lord and their two children John Daniel Lord, 13, and Kathryn Lord, 10.
