A robbery in the vicinity of Charlotte and Camp streets had residents diving for cover after police allegedly fired several shots while pursuing the suspect.
Reports are that at around 3 yesterday afternoon, a man had just exited the Goodwood Racing Service at Camp and Charlotte streets, after having won some money, when another man approached him from behind, snatched his bag and ran down Charlotte Street in the direction of Alexander Street. Witnesses in the area said that at the same time the perpetrator was heading to Alexander Street the police were coming down Charlotte from Alexander and so gave chase. The suspect, upon seeing the police diverted and ran into an alleyway in Charlotte Street, with the police hot on his tracks.
The police opened fire and soon caught the perpetrator. It is uncertain whether the bag with money was recovered. From what witnesses told this newspaper, no one was hurt during the whole episode.
The suspect is currently in police custody.
