Police say they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of an unidentified man who was taken to the Mahdia Hospital at fifteen minutes after midnight on Sunday. The release said the man had a wound to his head.
According to a police release, the victim was taken to the hospital by two men and one woman, and he had a wound to his head. The man succumbed while receiving medical treatment, the release said.
A source in the area told Stabroek News that on the night of the incident the man was at a village rum shop close to the Cenotaph imbibing with others. An argument reportedly ensued and a fight subsequently followed during which the victim was hit in the head with a piece of wood.
This wood, the source said, apparently had a nail on it, and the man suffered a puncture to his forehead. The source continued that instead of taking the man immediately to the hospital, the shop owner and the others present proceeded to clean up the blood from the place.
The three persons who transported the man to the hospital, two of whom are reportedly the shop owner and the assailant, have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations.
