Police say that at about 2300h last night, businessman Heeralall Sookdeo, 56 years, of Courbane Park, Annandale, ECD, and a female friend were held up by two men, one of whom was armed with a firearm, at a Chinese restaurant on Sheriff Street, Georgetown.
A release said that the perpetrators took the two victims in Sookdeo’s motor vehicle to the seawall at Ogle, ECD, where they were robbed of a total of $275,000, two cell phones and their personal jewellery.
The release said that the police responded quickly to the report received and at the Ogle Seawall they observed two men driving away in a motor car as they approached. The police gave chase during which the motor car ran into a ditch, but the men managed to escape.
The motor car has been detained by the police as the investigations continue.
