Guyana’s World ranked number 43 squash player Nicolette Fernandes, yesterday won a bronze medal at the XVI Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, chef-de Mission Noel Adonis reported.
According to Adonis, the gold medal winner of the Individual Women’s Singles event was Samantha Theran of Mexico, the top seeded competitor at the games.
Theran defeated Fernandes 3-0 in their semi-final clash before going on to win the gold medal match.
Medals were presented at a ceremony on completion of the day’s events.
Guyana is competing in swimming, rugby, track and field, squash and taekwondo at the games.
