Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry sentenced a 26-year-old electrician to two weeks in prison, after he pleaded guilty to striking a woman across her face with a belt.
The Georgetown Magistrates’ Court heard that on October 19 Dale Primo went home and found Rhonda Primo playing music and he turned it off. The virtual complainant (VC) then turned the music on again, as a result of which, Primo took a belt and lashed her across her face.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge and expressed regret about his action. He then told the court that he did not turn the music off but he lowered the volume so that he could watch television. He said the VC then turned the volume back up and he asked her five times to lower it. The man said he then became annoyed and dealt her the lash.
The magistrate took into consideration the mitigating and aggravating circumstances before handing down the sentence.
