A porter on Thursday lost his life after falling off the side of a logging truck, which in turn ran over him at 43 Miles Mabura.
Dead is Ramesh Deokie, 26, of Dora, Soesdyke/ Linden Highway. According to the man’s cousin, Martin Rajram, who was also his boss, the truck, GEE 7071, was being towed by a skidder up a hill off the main road, when the fatal accident occurred.
He said that usually everyone onboard the truck was required to disembark the vehicle when it goes up hill, but on that day, for some reason, Deokie stayed onboard. Rajram said that all the other workers, including the foreman, were following on foot behind the vehicle when the incident occurred.
Rajram said also that he is still trying to grasp what really happened to his cousin. “He musse slip off or something…by the time they [those on foot] see he fall and could tell de driver stop the truck done run over he,” he said.
Deokie’s body is currently at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination.
