Co-defending champions Barbados suffered a second consecutive rain-affected mach of the regional Super 50 one day tournament yesterday after their Group A encounter against the Windward Islands at Everest Cricket Club was washed out.
Persistent overnight and early morning showers left the Camp Road venue fairly water-logged which resulted in match referee and former West Indies opening batsman Adrian Griffith calling off the game at noon.
Speaking to Stabroek Sport afterwards Barbados Team Director Hendy Springer commented briefly on how the weather has been unkind to his side so far.
“Obviously we are disappointed not to have a full game as yet but weather interruptions are part of cricket and we have to accept it. We have good weather on days we had practice, but strangely on game days, the heavens have opened up on us. However, we are looking forward to our final game versus Guyana in Berbice on Sunday, where hopefully conditions there will be 100% ready for cricket,” said Springer. The results meant that hosts Guyana are at the top of Group A with eight points while Barbados and the Sagicor High Peformance Center are joint second on four points with the Windwards at the bottom on zero points after losing against Guyana.
All four teams will be hoping for better weather tomorrow when the final group matches will be played.
