Lydia Greenway and Arran Brindle both struck unbeaten centuries as England’s women powered to a 62-run win over South Africa in the opening one-day international at Potchefstroom.
Greenway made 125 not out from 127 deliveries, striking 12 boundaries, while Brindle found the rope 15 times in her 107 not out from 102 balls.
Their efforts propelled England up to 297-3 – a total they defended after bowling South Africa out for 235.
Captain Charlotte Edwards’ 150th ODI appearance saw her make just one and opening partner Danielle Wyatt fell for 21 to leave England 32-2.
A brisk 33 from Sarah Taylor built some momentum, but when Greenway and Brindle joined forces at 79-3 they took the game away from South Africa with an unbroken stand of 218 – the second-highest fourth-wicket partnership in women’s ODIs. (Sky Sports)
