Guyana’s U20 Lady Jags ready to roar

Guyana will be hosting Group D of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under-20 Women’s World Cup qualifying competition kicking off on  November 2 at the Georgetown Cricket Club Ground, Bourda.

According to a press release, the  countries battling for the top spot will be Anguilla, Antigua & Barbuda, The Dominican Republic and host Nation Guyana.

Technical Director of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Women’s Programme Mark Rodrigues has called a number of players (overseas and local) to the squad with the camp ahead of the competition expected to commence this weekend, the release stated.

The Lady Jags will take on Antigua & Barbuda on November 2nd in their first game with the opening encounter of the Group featuring The Dominican Republic and Anguilla from 13:00hrs, next Wednesday.

Competition will continue on November 4 and end on the 6th all at the GCC Ground, Bourda.

Team Guyana’s games will also be streamed live on the internet via the Guyana Sports Development website, http://www.guyssportsdevelopment.com. Tickets for the games can be purchased at the gates and will cost $500.00 with children under-12 free.

TD Rodrigues, the release stated, said he was  confident that the Under-20 Lady Jags will continue the success of the Senior team (Gold Cup Finalists 2010) and the Under-17 team which won the first round of qualifying a few months ago and have qualified for round two which will feature Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Bahamas to be played mid November.

Toronto based Lady Jags supporter EXCLUSSIF Spices  has donated  GUY$250,000 to the programme, bringing the company’s total donation since 2009 to approximately GUY$1,000,000.00.

Company President – Eric Rodrigues and his spouse even flew to  Cancun , Mexico  in 2010 to support the senior ladies at the Gold Cup, the release stated.
