A 23-year-old miner was on Tuesday night stabbed to death, following an argument at a drinking spot in Barlow Landing, Enachu.
Dead is Mark Cornelius of Jacklow, Pomeroon River, who succumbed to a stab wound to the abdomen.
According to a police press release, at around 11.30 pm Cornelius and another man were imbibing at a shop when an altercation ensued between them, which resulted in Cornelius being stabbed.
Relatives of the deceased yesterday told this newspaper that Cornelius was out playing a game of pools in an eating area in Mazaruni, and an argument arose between the two. The relative said that shortly after Cornelius exited the shop and his game partner, turned assailant, followed him out and stabbed him. Cornelius subsequently died.
Another relative related that on the day of the incident Cornelius was due to return home to Pomeroon, but he might have missed the boat and stopped at the shop to have a drink.
The suspect is still at large, and Cornelius’s body is currently at the Lyken’s Funeral Parlour.
