Stevedore residents breathe sigh of relief

The residents of Stevedore Housing Scheme are once again enjoying fresh air, after Cevon’s Waste Management fixed a broken compactor, which was parked in the storage facility nearby, loaded with stale garbage since Sunday.

When Stabroek News contacted residents in the area, they related that on Wednesday workers from the facility were seen disposing of the garbage from the compactor and since then the stench has diminished.

On Tuesday, the residents had complained to this newspaper that for over two days an unbearable stench had been emanating from the storage facility.

When contacted, the manager, who declined to state his name, had given the cause as that of a broken compactor, which had garbage locked up in it, and had promised to have the situation rectified by Wednesday.
