Victory Valley Royals and Amelia’s Ward Jets comfortably defeated their opponents to set up the much anticipated semi-final clash between the two teams tomorrow at the Mackenzie Hard Court in Linden for the 2011 Brusche Basketball Classic.
In addition, Georgetown teams Dyna’s Ravens and Courts Pacesetters will have another grudge match also set for tomorrow. Royals upset the Kashif and Shanghai Kings 55–37 while Jets edged defending champions Wismar Pistons 45–40 on Wednesday.
Courts Pacesetters trampled Macabees by 30 points (75–45) at the Burnham Basketball Court and Dyna’s Ravens earned their spot when New Amsterdam Warriors did not show up.
In the matchup between the Royals and Kings junior national point guard Marlon Pollydore, Orlan Glasgow and Chris Williams led a young bunch of players to victory in a game that was exciting from jump ball. At the end of the first quarter the Kings led 13–10 despite the young Royals dominating the opening period.
Steve Neils (10), Dwayne Alonzo (10) and Marvin Hartman (7) tried to keep the Kings in the game but the Royals, led by an offensive onslaught by Glasgow, went up by 12 points (30–18) at half time.
Glasgow finished with a game high 25 points while Pollydore and Williams ended with 12 and seven points respectively. Meanwhile, Pistons, playing without their leading scorer Quincy ‘Prog-Z’ Jones, led 13–10 at the end of the first quarter but the Jets played both ends of the floor to lead 22–21 at the half.
Jets maintained that lead going into the final period 32–26. Domain Webster, the younger brother of Shane Webster, topped the score sheet with 15 points and Guard Kevin Joseph had 10 for Jets.
Stryon Obermuller was the only player to score double digits with 10 points.
