ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Dwayne Bravo will have a chance to make a case for a place in upcoming tour and fortify his claims to be a possible West Indies captain when he leads the A-Team against Bangladesh-A in a home series next month.
The 28-year-old all-rounder has not gained the nod from the regional selectors, since a self-imposed exile from the game during the home series against India earlier this year.
Bravo has played 40 Tests, 117 One-day, and 22 Twenty20 Internationals for West Indies, but his batting and bowling have both gone off the boil in recent matches, prompting the selectors to include him in the 12-member A-Team to help with his revitalisation.
Nkrumah Bonner and Carlos Brathwaite, two all-rounders selected for recent senior team assignments, will join Andre Russell, Nelon Pascal, Devon Thomas and Danza Hyatt along with Bravo as players with international experience behind them.
Openers Rajendra Chandrika and Kyle Corbin, along with exciting fast bowler Shannon Gabriel and left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul, all attendees of the West Indies High Performance Centre, have also been named in the squad.
The unit is completed by all-rounder Jonathan Carter. He has never worn an international cap nor attended the HPC, but he has played for the A-Team previously, and the selectors seem impressed enough to give him another chance.
West Indies A play two “Tests” against Bangladesh-A from November 5 to 8 at the Vivian Richards Cricket Ground and November 12 to 15 at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
The two sides will also face each other in two Twenty20s and three One-day matches.
