The father of Shafeena Imran, who was stuck down by a speeding car and killed on Thursday, is appealing for justice.
A distraught Shameer Imran told Stabroek News yesterday that the driver remains in police custody but is giving various stories to investigators. Among them is the claim that his daughter was riding a bicycle at the time of the accident. He dismissed this suggestion as untrue, stating that his daughter was walking along the Annandale Public Road towards the market when she was hit head on. He said that the man is also claiming that “he steering cut and he lost control.” The father told this newspaper, “I can’t explain how I feel right now. All I want is justice. I gotta get justice.”
Police said yesterday that so far investigations revealed that Imran was walking along the roadway when she was struck down by motor car PNN 2951.
The driver of the vehicle is in police custody assisting with the investigations, police added.
Meanwhile, a post-mortem performed on Imran, 20, revealed that she died as a result of a fractured skull. She also had numerous broken bones.
She will be laid to rest at the La Grange burial ground today.
Based on the accounts given to Stabroek News, Imran was heading in an easterly direction along the roadway when the car, which was heading west, slammed into her just before 11 am. The woman was pitched several feet on impact and landed on the roadway.
Her umbrella, cell phone and slippers flew in different directions.
Residents told Stabroek News at the scene that because of the speed the car was moving at, the driver took some time to slow down before eventually coming to a stop.
Imran, who was gasping for air, was later taken to the hospital by the police and immediately rushed to the theatre for emergency surgery.
Police accompanied the driver to the Vigilance Police Station.
