An East La Penitence man, who allegedly sold narcotics to an undercover police officer, was yesterday remanded to prison after he appeared before Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The allegation is that on October 26, at Lot 820 East La Penitence, Colin Simmons had 2 grammes of cocaine and two grammes of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking. After the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded not guilty to the offence.
Prosecutor Luckhai Jairam told the court that on the day in question, at about 9:50 hrs a police Lance corporal was in the area conducting an operation. He took a $500 bill and placed a marking on the currency note, after which he purchased the narcotics with the said bill from the accused. The accused, who was not aware that the man was a police officer, allegedly sold the drugs to the rank. As a result, the accused was searched and the money was found on his person and he was later arrested and charged.
The accused, who was not eligible for bail, was remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned until November 3.
