A miner, who allegedly robbed a woman while she was returning from a birthday party, was yesterday remanded to prison after by Magistrate Sueanna Lovell at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
The court was told that on October 21, at Arakaka, in the North West District, Keon Brown allegedly robbed Isha Nicklas of 2 pennyweights of gold valued $24,000 and $60,000 cash.
The father of one was not to required to plead to the indictable charge of robbery with violence when it was read to him.
Prosecutor Luckhai Jairam told the court that the defendant is a known character to the police.
On the day in question, he said, at about 01:30hrs, Nicklas was returning home from her friend’s birthday party when she was attacked by the accused, who approached her from behind, choked her and threw her on the ground as he demanded the money and the gold.
The matter was subsequently reported and the accused was later charged for the offence.
In concluding the prosecutor further objected to bail, taking into consideration the prevalence of the offence and the possibility of the accused not returning to court.
The magistrate ruled in favour of the prosecution and the matter was adjourned until November 3.
