Ryan Berkley, who emerged as a runner up to Neilson Nurse in last year’s Most Promising Designer award at Guyana Fashion Weekend (GFW), made a huge comeback this year to cop the award for Upcoming Designer of the Year at GFW 2011.
According to a GFW press release, Ryan’s collection, titled ‘En Nyr’ saw an array of well tailored, coordinated and contemporary pieces. The black and gold line accentuated with gold studs and finishing featured a well chosen exquisite fabric with gold motifs, complemented by layering gold inserts.
CEO of Guyana Fashion Weekend Sonia Noel said that Berkley’s growth as a designer definitely fulfils one of the main mandates of GFW which is the development of the industry and the persons within it.
She also said that although all the designers have grown “it was Berkley’s time to shine and he took full advantage of the situation not leaving anything to chance”.
As part of the award, Berkley receives a host of prizes including a sewing machine compliments of Courts Guyana , a trophy compliments of Trophy Stall, a bracelet from King’s Jewellery World and a gift voucher from Wilo’s Bridal.
Berkley will be attending a premier shows in Guyana and the Caribbean to future promote his brand, the release said.
