Thirty referees successfully attended the five-day FIFA Referees Assistance Programme (RAP) held in conjunction with the Guyana Football Federation and the Guyana Football Referees Council (GFRC) at the International Conference Centre at Liliendaal.
The facilitators were FIFA Referee Instructor Peter Prendergast of Jamaica, FIFA Development Officer Ramesh Ramdhan and Merere Gonzales, FIFA Fitness Instructor both of Trinidad and Tobago.
Several local instructors including Lawrence “Sparrow” Griffith, Roy Mc Arthur, Colin Aaron, Lindley Langhorne and Anson Ambrose also made presentations during the five-day programme which included simulations, Fitness Test, a written test and evaluation.
Prendergast said he was pleased with the attendance but noted that the results were below expectations.
He called on the referees to show commitment and to work extremely hard in their quest for success.
National Referee Miguel Vieira was commended for his outstanding work during the programme and was presented with a gift from the visiting officials.
Secretary of the GFRC Troy Peters said that there should be more team work and called on the local referees to support each other.
The successful participants were Miguel Vieira, Dion Inniss, Christopher Joseph, Mark Young, Trevor Porter, Odessa Caleb, Lauren McPhoy, Cedric Weeks, Richonne Clarke, Cynette Jeffrey, Paul Babb, Maurees Skeete, Rollin Tappin, Otis James, Abdulla Hamid, Sherwin Moore, Venton Mars, Nicola Joseph, Stanley Lancaster, Sherwin Johnson, Kleon Lindley, Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Stephens, Trevor Beckles, Delroy Henry, Floyd Lewis, Natasha Lewis, Dion Feassal, Wayne Griffith and Frank Gulliver.
