The Pegasus Lawn Tennis Open tournament is scheduled to bounce off on Friday at the Le Meridien, Pegasus hard courts in Kingston.
According to a press release, the tournament, which is held annually, coincides with the anniversary of the hotel which has been sponsoring the tournament for over two decades.
The hotel has made its impact on the sport in Guyana over the years as the hotel’s courts are used as a default home for tournaments and training camps.
The tournament’s opening ceremony commences at 17:00hrs and the tournament is expected to attract the best local tennis players.
Defending champions, Jeremy Miller (Men’s Singles) and Carol Humphrey (Ladies Singles) will be looking to retain their titles when the singles competition of the tournament starts.
This year will also see a Novice category included in the competition where tie-break sets will be played.
The Le Meridien, Pegasus Hotel, is one of the premier hotels in Guyana views its sponsorship of tennis as one way of contributing as a corporate citizen and was pleased to be associated with the development of tennis, the release noted.
