ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – Three foreign teams – The Netherlands, Canada and Sussex – will boost the numbers for the Caribbean Twenty20 Championship next January.
The tournament will feature 10 teams with the foreign invaders contesting with the six territorial sides and the Combined Campuses & Colleges in two groups of five teams.
Defending champions Trinidad & Tobago, Windward Islands, Guyana, Leeward Islands and Canada comprise Group-A with Group-B consisting of Jamaica, Barbados, CCC, The Netherlands and Sussex.
The Netherlands approached the West Indies Cricket Board to play in the tournament to help with their preparation for the Twenty20 World Cup, Sussex comes as part of the cooperative arrangement with the England & Wales Cricket Board, and Canada are attending for a third straight year.
There will be 24 matches over 12 intense days at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Kensington Oval in Barbados.
A dozen preliminary round matches will be played in Port of Spain from January 9 to 14, while eight preliminary round matches, the semi finals, consolation final and grand final will be played in Bridgetown from January 17 to 24.
The final will be played on Sunday, January 22 and the two semi finals, the day before on January 21.
T&T face Windward Islands in the feature match on the opening day with two of the foreign teams Sussex and Netherlands to meet in their first match the following day.
