Dear Editor,
I am very interested to know what the laws of Guyana say about someone who is on a party’s list of candidates while holding a position that should be neutral. To be clear, I would like to know what exactly the law says with regard to the Chairman of the Ethnic Relations Commission, Mr Juan Edghill, publicly endorsing the PPP/C and being on their list of their candidates. Shouldn‘t Mr Edghill vacate the office of Chairman of the Ethnic Relations Commission, and shouldn‘t he stop driving the ERC’s vehicle? I am a taxi driver so I drive my children around, but my wife is a taxpayer and I hate to see her hard-earned money being abused by the likes of Mr Edghill. I may not be learned, but I am sure that somewhere in the laws of Guyana, if a person is running in the elections that person has certain legal obligations.
Yours faithfully,
Terry James
