Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Wednesday remanded a 37-year-old Wortmanville resident after he appeared before her to answer to two counts of break and enter and larceny.
The allegation is that on July 9, 2010, Damion Austin broke and entered the dwelling place of Robert Rocky Persaud and stole a camera, jewellery, cell phone and cash which amounted to $188,000.
It is further alleged that between August 28-29, the man broke and entered the dwelling place of Gale Gonzales and stole items valued $187,720.
The accused pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
According to the facts presented to the court by the prosecution, between August 28-29 the VC secured her premises and went to bed. On the following day she was awakened by a loud noise and when she made checks in her home she noticed that some of her items were missing.
The woman reported the matter at the police station and an investigation was subsequently carried out and fingerprints were obtained which matched those of the accused.
The prosecution objected to bail, stating that the defendant is a flight risk and if placed on bail he would not return to court.
The matter was transferred to Court Five where the accused was further remanded until the matter is called again on November 5.
