The finals for the East Coast Carib Beer Twenty20 cricket competition will be played tomorrow at the Enterprise Community Centre Ground between Lions 11 and Plaisance.
Lusignan Sports Club and Enterprise/Busta Sports club will be vying for the second runner-up position.
The announcement which was made on Wednesday at a press briefing at the Malteenoes Sports Club pavilion by president of the East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB), Bissoondyal Singh also coincided with the launching of the Elizabeth Styles first and second division 40-overs cricket competition.
Singh said that the Twenty20 competition which attracted 42 teams started in December last year and would have ended sooner but a packed schedule and inclement weather stalled the competition.
The first, second and third-placed teams will receive $100,000 and a trophy, $50,000 and a trophy and $25,000 and a trophy respectively. The third place game will bowl off at 14:00 hrs while the finals will commence at 19:00 hrs.
Admission for the event is $200 and all proceeds will go directly to aid the development of cricket on the East Coast of Demerara. Singh said that next year the ECCB wants to establish a permanent under-13 squad along with a rigorous cricketing development programme throughout the East Coast.
The ECCB boss further added that he plans to take their cricketing academy to the next level by registering it as a non-governmental organization and they will also be working on a speedy resolution to get all 26 grounds on the East Coast up and running as only 12 of these are operable.
Singh thanked ANSA McAl for being an exceptional corporate citizen by sponsoring the tournament for the past four years.
The two new 40-over cricket competitions will begin on the East Coast of Demerara on November 12 and 13 respectively under the USA Elizabeth Style Cosmetics.
The ECCB head said that the competition will be played on a round-robin basis with all of the new ICC regulations except the one which states that new balls will be used from both ends due to a cost factor.
Singh said also that the competition will conclude early January and the EECB intends to start a female competition early next year in addition to the under-21 male tournament that is now ongoing.
He added that Singhfam Corp will be sponsoring under-19 and under-21 competitions in Berbice next week and disclosed that the USA company will also be going to Essequibo and other parts of Demerara to help in the development of local cricket.
“We wanted this sponsorship to cover a three-day competition but due to the limited time before the year ends and the adverse weather, it was decided that a 40-over competition be played to get the promotion off the ground,” Singh said.
