Chairman of the Implementation Committee of the Mayor & City Council, Keith Burrowes, has been asked by Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Norman Whittaker, to manage the disbursement of the $20 million, which was given to the council by the government for the rehabilitation of City Hall.
Speaking with Stabroek News via telephone, Burrowes said he was asked by the government to review any payment that will be made in this particular project.
He explained that he has since met Mayor Hamilton Green and a few other senior officers and a method that will be used in disbursing the money has been decided on. Burrowes said he will soon document the guidelines to be used.
The arrangement, he said, will be applicable to all other funding the government will be offering the M&CC outside of rates and taxes.
“Once I’m dealing with overlooking this project, they will have no problems,” Burrowes said.
