The President of the cycling federation who had been suspended by the executive for three months over certain actions she had taken has apologized and is now back on board.
The Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) yesterday issued a statement saying that it met with president of the GCF, Cheryl Thompson on Thursday, November 3, at the Guyana Olympic Association to address certain actions which the federation felt were not under her jurisdiction.
Desmond Burch-Smith, chairman of the Disciplinary Committee outlined the issues of concerns of the federation to Thompson and for her part; Thompson stated that she acted out of urgency and at no time wanted to disrespect or disregard the federation or any of its committees.
After further discussions on the issues of concern, Thompson “in a statesmanlike and commendable manner apologized for her infractions.”
The statement said that all the Federation members then welcomed Thompson back on board and both parties pledged to work together, hand in hand for the betterment and development of cycling. Burch-Smith then stated that he was elated at this amicable solution and like everyone else voiced support for Thompson.
Thompson along with members of the GCF will work together to continue the development of the sport of cycling in Guyana.
Thompson was issued with a strong letter of reprimand along with three months suspension by the federation’s Disciplinary Committee for displaying disregard and disrespect for the federation.
The GCF president was sanctioned by the federation because she had not attended meetings and had issued racing licences to riders without consultation with the federation, in addition to making decisions without the input of other federation members
