A miner sustained a head wound during a drunken quarrel at Buckhall Land-ing, Barama yesterday and later died.
A suspect has since been arrested and is in police custody assisting with investigations.
Dead is Elvin David, 42, of Belladrum, West Coast Berbice.
Police said in a press release that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of David which occurred around 02:00 hours.
Investigations revealed that David and another man were imbibing when an argument developed between them during which he sustained an injury to his head and subsequently died, the release said, adding that the body is at the Suddie Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Stabroek News was unable to make contact with the dead man’s relatives.
