According to CANU Head, James Singh, to date, 115 kilogrammes of cocaine have been seized for the year, while CANU has also assisted in the seizure of almost twice that amount internationally. The amount of cocaine destroyed yesterday was 30 kgs. The cannabis amounted to 105 kgs. The CANU head also revealed that the majority of the narcotics seized came by river. On Friday, four alleged smugglers—Narayan Jarbandhan, Salim Bacchus, Gary Belgrave and Leo Hernandez—were remanded to prison after being charged with possession of approximately 82 pounds of cocaine. Among the items on display at the CANU Headquarters yesterday were a ski mast, a knit hat and other items reportedly found on the person of Salim Bacchus.
