The Georgetown Football Association/Banks DIH Super League resumes today with a triple header, at the GFC ground.
In the opening match-up University of Guyana (UG) battle Black Pearl from 16:00 hrs, followed by the encounter between Beacons and Riddim Squad from 18:00 hrs. The feature game will see Guyana’s number one team Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United challenging the youthful Fruta Conquerors from 20:00 hrs.
For the opening match not much is known of the UG side but all eyes will be on former standout central defender Earl ‘Pig’ O’Neal, who played at the international level. Black Pearl, on the other hand, having been the more consistent team in the tournament should start as favourites.
Among those anticipated to start for Black Pearl are Kerwin Jackson, Tyhuis McAlmont, Dwayne Chase, Stephen Prass, Jason Clarke and Lomel Johnson.
In the Beacons/Riddim Squad affair, the latter had an impressive season and the Hope brothers, Sceyon and Sheldon, are expected to lead their quest for full points. Support will come from Lyttleton Ramsay, his brother Amos, Dorville Stewart and Mark Gilkes. Beacons’ charge will be spearheaded by Phillip Rowley, Dillion Fraser, Paul Giles, Sherwin Grimes, Jerome Richardson and Eon Singh.
In the feature clash, Alpha United, if their top players play, should make life difficult for the young Conquerors. Alpha’s Anthony ‘Awo’ Abrams, Shevane Seaforth, Shawn Bishop, Quincy Madramootoo, Kelvin McKenzie and Ronson Williams, between the uprights, on paper, provide the first obstacle for the new look Conquerors.
However, the Conquerors unit looked sharp in a friendly encounter against Riddim Squad recently and Alpha United should be guided by that determined performance against such a seasoned side.
The smooth moves of Pernell Schultz, Jermain Junor, Travis Hackett, Eon Alleyne, Marco Marcus and the collected Trevon Lythcott will be aiming to lead their team to victory, while the impressive Colin Edwards will also be looking to thwart the threats of Abrams and company.
