Police dominate table tennis tourney super 16 round

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) dominated the super sixteen rounds of the 2011 Inter Organization Table Tennis Tournament yesterday in the Queen’s College Auditorium.

Divided into the GPF and the Guyana Police Mess (GPM), the policemen fielded four teams of which three advanced to the quarterfinal round slated to start today.

The GPF ‘A’ team dominated their group rounds which started on Friday as they topped the group with two points.

They maintained their dominance yesterday as they man handled the Chinese Development Banks clobbering them to an embarrassing 3-0 loss to advance to the quarterfinal.

GPF ‘A’ will now meet their soldier counterparts in the quarterfinal as the lone Guyana Defence Force (GDF), team, GDF ‘A’ dominated their opponents Pritipaul Singh Investment in a 3-0 win to face the Police ‘A’ team.

GPM ‘A’ dominated the group rounds on Friday to be the team to record the most points with four in the group stages and trounced General Industry and Supply Enterprise ‘B’ 3-0 in their match-up.

GPM ‘A’ will now meet Blue Thunder ‘A’ which defeated GPF ‘B’ 3-2 in the super sixteen rounds but struggled throughout the tournament.

GPM ‘B’ was the other police team to advance as they gained a walkover over Blue Thunder ‘B’.

General Industry and Supply Enterprise ‘A’ pulled off an upset over GDF ‘B’, battling hard to walk away with a 3-2 win over the military men.

Guyana Telephone and Telegraph ‘A’ and Rasville Youth Organization were the other two teams to advance to the quarterfinal round as they drew byes to advance to the final eight teams.

Meanwhile, quarterfinal action is set to start today at 10:00 hrs at the said venue.
