(Trinidad Express) The State of Emergency will be reviewed today by the National Security Council, says Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar.
Persad-Bissessar said a meeting is scheduled for 2.30 p.m., when she will discuss the matter.
She was speaking at a news conference at the VIP Lounge of the Piarco International Airport, upon her return from the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Perth, Australia.
Questioned on the issue, Persad-Bissessar said National Security Minister Brig John Sandy and other Ministers have been briefing her on the State of Emergency.
However, she stressed that any decision on whether to lift it will depend on the advice of law enforcement.
Persad-Bissessar said her trip to Australia, where she handed over the chairmanship of the Commonwealth to Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, was a success.
She said there were a lot of discussions with officials from African countries, such as Nigeria, South Africa and Uganda, about energy and the possibility of using this country’s skills and expertise in the area of oil and gas to assist those countries in their own energy sector.
