LAUDERHILL, Florida, CMC – Former West Indies duo Lance Gibbs and Lawrence Rowe are part of a newly-formed committee to help promote and market the game in Broward county.
Gibbs and Rowe are part of the Cricket Advisory Committee which has been formed by Broward County Commissioner Dale Holness to attract top-quality matches to the Central Broward Regional Park & Stadium.
“I have been closely involved with the staff and officials at the Central Broward Regional Park and Stadium from its inception and have been impressed with the level of professionalism,” said Gibbs on the Dream Cricket website.
“I am looking forward to playing a part in bringing international cricket to the County, and offering any advice I can to ensure matches at the Central Broward Regional Park, one of the best cricket facilities in North America.”
The committee has been asked to seek teams and sponsors who will assist in bringing the game to Broward County and to work closely with the United States Cricket Board and other organizations to ensure that Central Broward Regional is well positioned to attract tournaments. “We are honored that such an eminent group has accepted my invitation to become the first members of the committee,” said Holness.
“The committee members bring a wealth of experience which will provide valuable insight and support in the future marketing and promotion of Central Broward Regional Park and Stadium – the only International Cricket Council certified cricket facility in North America – as a prime location for international cricket and training.”
Central Broward Regional Park & Stadium was opened four years ago on November, at a cost of US$70 million.
It has hosted a number of exhibition games before Sri Lanka and New Zealand played two official Twenty20 Internationals last may at the venue.
