Rights activist Mark Benschop last evening announced his support for the Alliance For Change (AFC) for the upcoming elections, saying that the party will right the wrongs committed by the ruling party.
“…I’m respectfully asking all Guyanese to join with me, and let’s vote for the AFC on November 28, 2011,” he said in a statement released last night, while noting that rampant corruption, marginalisation, killing squads, drugs, the neglect of workers rights and the torturing of citizens over the 19 years of the PPP’s rule are enough for Guyanese to vote it out of office.
Benschop, who said he was impressed with the AFC leadership, “which is very energetic and represents our multi-racial nation,” added that his support for the AFC is in no way a deviation from his years of struggle against the “oppressive PPP regime,” which he said is responsible for his five-year incarceration on a treason charge.
