The accountant who was admitted to hospital in a critical condition after being struck down by two motorcycles on October 25, died last night.
Wayne Maison told Stabroek News that his brother Franz Welch died around 11 pm in the Intensive Care Unit of the Georgetown Public Hospital where he had been transferred last Thursday. He was previously a patient of the High Dependency Unit.
A grief-stricken Maison said that the death has really shocked him especially since his brother opened his eyes earlier yesterday and appeared to be improving.
He said that about an hour after the death two traffic ranks turned up at the hospital and that infuriated him. He explained that since the accident the police had paid very little interest in the case and he saw it as a slap in the face that they would turn up only when Welch had died.
Maison said too that what got him even angrier was that the ranks are doing nothing to catch the motorcyclists, even though they are in possession of the motorcycles at the Kitty Police Station. The ranks are also in possession of the names and addresses for the owners.
Based on reports, Welch was heading to his car which was parked near the seawalls between Sheriff Street and Conversation Tree when he was hit.
He leaves to mourn, his wife, a young daughter and other relatives.
