The rain interrupted Inter-County Under-17 competition resumed yesterday with Cellink Berbice and Demerara defeating President’s XI and Essequibo respectively.
At the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), Cellink Berbice toppled President’s XI by 78 runs.
Winning the toss and batting first in a reduced 35-overs game, Berbice reached 157/7 in their allotted overs with Shailendra Shameer (50) not out and Sharaz Ramcharan, 35, being the principal scorers.
Kevin Paul was the main wicket-taker for the President’s XI side with figures of 3 for 27.
In reply President’s XI, thanks to a five-wicket haul from 2011 Guyana-Under 19 left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie (5 for 14), Cellink Berbice were able to restrict the opposition to 79/7 when the 35 overs expired.
Kevin Warner (18) and Sunil Singh (15) were the only President’s XI batsmen to cross double figures in a losing reply.
Over at the Everest Cricket Club, Demerara overcame Essequibo by 31 runs. After calling correctly at the coin toss, Demerara racked up 143/7 in the 35 overs. In pursuit Essequibo fell short, being bowled out for 112 in 34.3 overs.
The competition’s final round of matches is scheduled for today with Demerara tackling Cellink Berbice at DCC and Essequibo facing President’s XI at Everest.
