ST JOHN’S, Antigua, CMC – All-rounder Dwayne Smith has been named to lead an experienced West Indies A squad in two Twenty20s against the touring Bangladesh A side later this month.
The 28-year-old, recalled to the Windies senior squad for the two T20Is against England in September after a year-and-a-half out of favour, will take charge of a 13-man squad for the games scheduled for November 18 and 19 at the Beausejour Cricket Stadium in St Lucia. Smith, who came to prominence with a century on Test debut seven years ago, got scores of 33 and 11 in the Oval doubleheader.
The squad includes 10 players who have already represented senior West Indies, with leg-spinner Samuel Badree, left arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul and batsman Jason Mohammed the trio not yet capped.
Mohammed was named Player of the Tournament for the recent Super50 Series in Guyana, and also walked away with the Richie Richardson Trophy for most outstanding batsman.
He will play alongside left-arm spinner Garey Mathurin, who made an inspiring Windies debut with three for nine in West Indies’ 25-run win in the second T20.
Skipper Smith and fast bowler Nelon Pascal are the two players with Test experience in the squad.
Squad: Dwayne Smith (captain), Samuel Badree, Christopher Barnwell, Miles Bascombe, Nkrumah Bonner, Carlos Brathwaite, Johnson Charles, Jason Mohammed, Garey Mathurin, Nelon Pascal, Veerasammy Permaul, Krishmar Santokie, Devon Thomas.
