Former judge of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States, Guyanese Odel Adams has passed away.
According to a death announcement in yesterday’s Sunday Stabroek, Justice Adams, 75, died at his residence in Baltimore, Maryland on November 7. His funeral took place in Baltimore on Saturday.
Justice Adams was a partner in the law firm of Britton, Hamilton and Adams of South Road and was a retired judge of the OECS.
According to attorney and journalist Oscar Ramjeet, the late judge was a prosecutor at the Attorney General’s office in Guyana before being seconded to St. Kitts/Nevis as Director of Public Prosecutions. He then returned to Guyana and set up a law firm with his close friends.
Ramjeet said that the late judge then took up an appointment in Barbados and was seconded by the Grenada Government to prosecute in the Maurice Bishop murder trial.
He later took up an appointment in Montserrat as Attorney General and was appointed a High Court Judge of the Eastern Caribbean in 1990, according to Ramjeet.
He served in Dominica and later in St. Vincent and the Grenadines where he retired seven years ago.
Ramjeet said that a Full Court will be constituted in Dominica next week to pay tribute to the Pomeroon-born Justice Adams.
