St. Roses High and Queen’s College ‘B’ will contest the final of Under-13 category in the Digicel Sponsored schools Table Tennis tournament. That tournament continues next week Saturday at the Queen’s College Auditorium.
The two advanced to the finals yesterday after defeating St. Stanislaus College and Mae’s ‘A’ respectively. Mae’s ‘A’ and St. Stanislaus College will battle for third place.
Meanwhile, the under-15 category is at the quarter final stage and the eight teams competing are defending champions Bishops’ High, Mae’s ‘A’, Queen’s College ’A’, St. Joseph’s High, Queen’s College ‘B’, St. Roses ‘A’, Bishop’s High ‘B’ and New Amsterdam Secondary.
Still at the group stage is the under-18 category. To date eight of the twenty-two teams have advanced to the knock-out stage. The eight teams are: Queen’s College ‘B’, Harmony Secondary, St. Joseph’s High, Queen’s College ‘A’, Mae’s ‘B’, New Amsterdam Secondary ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams.
The best sixteen teams will contest the knock-out stage for a place in the quarter finals.
The competition which started Friday last should have been completed yesterday but with the number of games still to be played and students having to return to school, it was suggested that the competition continue next week.
And in an invited comment, President of the Guyana Table Tennis Association, Police Commissioner Henry Greene said that the association will absorb the financial cost for the extra day.
The presentation ceremony will follow the completion of next week’s matches.
