The elderly man who succumbed after being hit by a John Fernandes Ltd container truck, on the evening of November 3 is still in the Georgetown Hospital mortuary, since no one has yet identified him.
The man, of East Indian ancestry, was struck down on Mandela Avenue, Alexander Village in front of the Agri Parts Machinery & Service office. Eyewitnesses had recounted that he was being chased out of the aforementioned business premises when he was struck down. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where he later succumbed on November 5.
Public Relations officer of the GPH Alero Proctor informed Stabroek News that with regard to ‘John Does’ when all possible measures of possibly identifying the victims are exhausted the hospital then carries out “a low budget burial”. This victim is still awaiting identification and the police have issued press releases detailing his descriptive features with the hope that a relative might come forward.
