Guyanese, Renee Bisnauth placed fourth at the Caribbean Spelling Bee competition that was held on Saturday last in St Kitts and her major sponsor– Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) is “very, very happy” with her performance.
“I think she did Guyana proud even though she wasn’t in the top three,” said GT&T’s Allison Parker when contacted by this newspaper. She added that Bisnauth did Guyana proud by keeping the country’s flag flying in that Caribbean island.
The nine-year-old of Berbice departed Guyana on Friday. In a telephone interview she stated that although she did not win she enjoyed the trip which allowed her to visit many places of interest.
Her mother Donna Bisnauth told Stabroek News that she, too, was proud of her daughter. She informed that the child was unable to spell two words from the music list—piccolo and cellist—and two other words—orator and diocese. However, in placing fourth Renee gained 80 points. Third place went to St Vincent and the Grenadines with 85 points. Antigua and St Kitts were tied after the final round on 90 points and had to go to a tie-breaker where St Kitts emerged winner.
